I hadn’t had time to make plans prior to arriving in Gloucester. \u00a0I had\u00a0little more than\u00a0an intention to visit the archives and \u00a0Elmore, a neighbouring village which was steeped in ancestors and relatives. \u00a0Many \u00a0relatives had also lived in Gloucester but \u00a0 mostly I was unaware of the locations beyond\u00a0 an occasional street name. \u00a0I did \u00a0look\u00a0for one particular pub to find that part of the street replaced by an enormous parking lot. \u00a0To keep it simple I spent the first day at Gloucester Cathedral and \u00a0generally becoming acquainted with the central\u00a0parts of the city.<\/p>\n

There were many and varied tombs and memorials to important people. \u00a0The one above is from the early 1600s. \u00a0Sometimes there would be a description of family and or the positive qualities of the dead person.<\/p>\n
