{"id":1061,"date":"2010-11-10T23:40:33","date_gmt":"2010-11-10T15:40:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/?p=1061"},"modified":"2010-11-11T00:46:35","modified_gmt":"2010-11-10T16:46:35","slug":"food-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/?p=1061","title":{"rendered":"Food"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Food<\/p>\n<p>Below are some\u00a0food \u00a0photos\u00a0from my collection which show some of the food I&#8217;ve seen or consumed.\u00a0 Most are local with the last three having been taken in Yunnan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/005colleg-fungus-chicken.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1062\" title=\"005colleg fungus &amp; chicken\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/005colleg-fungus-chicken-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/005colleg-fungus-chicken-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/005colleg-fungus-chicken.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one came from the canteen.\u00a0 It consists of a fungus, zucchini\/cucumber, a slither of carrot\u00a0and what passes for\u00a0 a\u00a0large \u00a0amount of chicken in these parts.\u00a0 I like it apart from the over salting.\u00a0 Despite its appearance I&#8217;ve taken to the fungus and even bought some to include in my occasional cooking.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/017-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1063\" title=\"017 (2)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/017-2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/017-2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/017-2.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This a noodle and vegetable dish from a nearby street stall.\u00a0 It was delicious the first time I\u00a0ate it.\u00a0 The second time the flavouring was different and\u00a0while edible\u00a0was a disappointment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/017.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1064\" title=\"017\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/017-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/017-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/017.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A roast sweet potato from a street vendor.\u00a0 It was\u00a0very tasty.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/172.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1065\" title=\"172\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/172-207x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"207\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/172-207x300.jpg 207w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/172.jpg 709w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 207px) 100vw, 207px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0is not a good photo but it gives an idea of where the potatoes are cooked.\u00a0 There are many such small vehicles\u00a0with\u00a0 hot plates upon which the potatoes sit and cook. Potatoes\u00a0are sold by weight.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/DEec-20-Old-Xingtai-421.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1066\" title=\"DEec 20 Old Xingtai 421\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/DEec-20-Old-Xingtai-421-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/DEec-20-Old-Xingtai-421-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/DEec-20-Old-Xingtai-421.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These are my favourite kebabs cooking on a hotplate on a bicycle.\u00a0After cooking they were brushed with a bean paste and dusted with several different spices.\u00a0 \u00a0Sometimes people buy them stuffed inside a flat bun which is\u00a0also\u00a0\u00a0warmed on the hotplate.\u00a0 Other kinds of kebabs\u00a0including meat, tofu\u00a0and\u00a0 squid are also\u00a0available.\u00a0 \u00a0The Muslim style\u00a0kebabs are\u00a0cooked over hot coals and are available at other stalls and restaurants.\u00a0 They are dusted with spices and very yummy too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/090my_quaileggs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1067\" title=\"090my_quaileggs\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/090my_quaileggs-203x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"203\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/090my_quaileggs-203x300.jpg 203w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/090my_quaileggs.jpg 695w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 203px) 100vw, 203px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These\u00a0 quail egg kebabs were dusted with spices and tasted delicious.\u00a0\u00a0I&#8217;ve only ever seen them twice in China.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/100sugar_drawing.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1068\" title=\"100sugar_drawing\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/100sugar_drawing-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/100sugar_drawing-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/100sugar_drawing.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Drawing in sugar.\u00a0 It was melted over a small\u00a0heat and the molten liquid drawn into various shapes designed to appeal to potential customers.\u00a0 A completed one is hanging near the makers head.\u00a0 This stall was set up near a kindergarten at close of day. I returned and ordered the same dish the following night.\u00a0 Despite them having a menu with words, pictures and listed prices I was charged less on the second occasion. Perhaps it was a frequent diners discount.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0One of the young men I met\u00a0at\u00a0\u00a0Lake Lugo, and with whom I dined\u00a0 one night, \u00a0said our meal was discounted because we ate at a restaurant where he had eaten previously.\u00a0 \u00a0 I never ate eggplant before going to China but I had quite a bit of it in Yunnan and enjoyed it.\u00a0 Sichuan is the province known for its spicy food but in Yunnan\u00a0chilis\u00a0were sold in large quantities\u00a0\u00a0from large bags and appeared in copious amounts in prepared food.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Food Below are some\u00a0food \u00a0photos\u00a0from my collection which show some of the food I&#8217;ve seen or consumed.\u00a0 Most are local with the last three having been taken in Yunnan.
