It was created to recognise those who gave their lives to change China&#8217;s political and social environment.\u00a0 It was built during the last years of the 1950s.\u00a0 It is enormous and sits in the middle of the square with Mao Zedong&#8217;s mausoleum to the south, Tiananmen Gate to the north and an enormous museum and the People&#8217;s Hall on each side.\u00a0 It is cordoned off so that people are not allowed to get too close to it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/007.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1108\" title=\"007\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/007-300x171.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/007-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/007-1024x584.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/007.jpg 2042w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tiananmen Gate and the national flag flying in a breeze.\u00a0 There is a ceremony to erect and remove it each day.\u00a0 I was there at the time of \u00a0the evening removal once but there were too many tourists to engage my interest.\u00a0 Tiananamen Square is a must see for domestic tourists and they can be seen everywhere posing for photos. It is 800 metres long and I walked it twice during the weekend along with the walking to reach there and around the Forbidden City.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/093.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1109\" title=\"093\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/093-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/093-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/093.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I posted this photo a couple of weeks ago.\u00a0 It is in a street adjacent to the Forbidden City.\u00a0\u00a0On Saturday\u00a0I bought a book which showed this photo, minus the air conditioner,\u00a0and talked about its past.\u00a0 It was a temple, known as the Temple of Prosperity and became a refuge for many eunuchs \u00a0after they left the Forbidden City.\u00a0 It had quiet a past being much more than a temple but also like a hotel for many eunuchs and\u00a0their families.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 According to the book some eunuchs did have families including wife and children.\u00a0 Many also \u00a0adopted a child to \u00a0continue their name.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Beijing-IXUS-059.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1110\" title=\"Beijing IXUS 059\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Beijing-IXUS-059-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Beijing-IXUS-059-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Beijing-IXUS-059.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a cute little street sweeper parked in Dashalan St.\u00a0 It is the first motorised one I&#8217;ve seen anywhere but Xingtai which has a few along with an army of human sweepers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Beijing-IXUS-148Yongding-Gate-from-bus.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1111\" title=\"Beijing IXUS 148Yongding Gate from bus\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Beijing-IXUS-148Yongding-Gate-from-bus-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Beijing-IXUS-148Yongding-Gate-from-bus-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Beijing-IXUS-148Yongding-Gate-from-bus.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is the Yongding Gate and I took\u00a0it from a bus down south near the Temple of Heaven Park.\u00a0 Another book I have started reading said that it was built in 2004.\u00a0 There used to be a gate there in\u00a0previous times but it along with most of the others was demolished during the 1950s and 1960s.\u00a0\u00a0From memory it stands alone amidst a tangle of roadways.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Beijing-IXUS-149opposite-Temple-of-H-bus-stop.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1112\" title=\"Beijing IXUS 149opposite Temple of H bus stop\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Beijing-IXUS-149opposite-Temple-of-H-bus-stop-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Beijing-IXUS-149opposite-Temple-of-H-bus-stop-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Beijing-IXUS-149opposite-Temple-of-H-bus-stop.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A residential street and apartment block near the southern entrance to the Temple of Heaven Park.
