I was now close to Qianhai Lake,\u00a0the southern-most of three connected lakes\u00a0which used to be part of the Grand Canal and now part of a lively and fairly attractive oasis\u00a0 amidst Beijing&#8217;s concrete and steel.\u00a0 It took a little while to get my bearings, but a few &#8220;you are Here&#8221; type maps soon had me continuing to head in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Hutongs Nov 28 2010 299\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Hutongs-Nov-28-2010-2991-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This was across the road and part of what seemed to be a large temple complex.\u00a0 It was too late for it to be open and I had insufficient time.\u00a0 Until recently it was part of residential housing and has been renovated.\u00a0 Some of the locals were using it as to enjoy a relaxing time together.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Hutongs-Nov-28-2010-302.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1272\" title=\"Hutongs was to meet someone later for dinner.\u00a0 As predicted by reviews it provided small serves of\u00a0good food at expensive prices.\u00a0 The food was delicious.\u00a0 \u00a0Unlike the reviews it was practically empty so a Sunday night in winter was not a money spinner for them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Hutongs-Nov-28-2010-339.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1276\" title=\"Hutongs Nov 28 2010 339\" 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 254px) 100vw, 254px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I saw the bird I realised I&#8217;d been before back in July 2009.\u00a0 He\u00a0was in a shop window with his own heater.\u00a0 I stayed in the area and spent a couple of days roaming around and visitng a few house museums once belonging to notable people.\u00a0 I left one of them before I saw it all because it was so hot and crowded with thousands of people I couldn&#8217;t stand it any more.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t get in to see particular areas and it was impossible to take photos, with at best. parts of people intruding into them.
