<\/a><\/p>\nOne of the first sights I saw was this man herding his ducks.\u00a0 They’d walked from a residential compound, across the street and were heading towards a narrow alley.<\/p>\n
Another unusual sight was these toilet seat covers.\u00a0 Western style toilets are extremely rare anywhere.\u00a0 However, I have seen one or two commode chairs so maybe the covers are for them.<\/p>\n Shoe repair shop missing the owner.\u00a0 I had a pair of leather shoes resoled and partly reheeled\u00a0by a repairman in another part of the city.\u00a0 I only wore them a couple of times before sending them on a trip on the high seas.\u00a0 The repair cost was extraordinarilycheap and they\u00a0were \u00a0OK to wear.<\/p>\n The ubiquitous stool.\u00a0 This time it has old tires in it’s construction.\u00a0 Last night I was looking at one of my textile magazines.\u00a0 It showed a photo of textile artwork created by an American who had visited China a twice.\u00a0 She had sewn one of these stools into her picture.<\/p>\n These were being built as part of a larger complex.\u00a0 They look like garages but resemble the tiny shops which are being demolished all over the city to make way for wider footpaths and sometimes car parking.<\/p>\n I have no idea what it says but it was attached to a wooden bench holding\u00a0 a section of bloodied tree trunk which was outside a closed shop.\u00a0 \u00a0Readily visible Arabic writing is not common in my city \u00a0although there is a larger Chinese Muslim presence than I had expected.<\/p>\n Sausages of some kind drying outside and inside the shop.<\/p>\n A box of quail eggs.<\/p>\n Probably sweet potato cut into chopstick sized portions.<\/p>\n A small shop selling fruit kebabs.<\/p>\n Peking Duck<\/p>\n I stopped to photograph the 3 duck heads.\u00a0 The stall owner immediately whipped the duck\u00a0 from one of\u00a0 the large vats nearby and laid it down before I had time to photograph the heads alone.<\/p>\n A colourful array of preserved vegetables.<\/p>\n Making plain buns.\u00a0<\/p>\n 1\u00a0Dough is broken from the mass in the\u00a0 middle right of the photo, weighed, rolled \u00a0and painted with something from the bowl.\u00a0 Seeds are sprinkled from the grimy containers at the front.<\/p>\n 2 Then it is placed on the hot plate where the other half of the duo turns it fairly quickly.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a>One of the permanent shops provided metal work and these two were involved in bending metal tubing.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
