Boat Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dragon Boat Festival<\/p>\n<p>This year Wednesday 16<sup>th<\/sup> June was celebrated in China as Dragon Boat Festival Day.\u00a0 It is an ancient festival held in accordance with the lunar calendar.\u00a0 It celebrates the life and death of a statesman and poet, Qu Yuan.\u00a0\u00a0 Over 2,000 years ago he was so dispirited by his Emperor\u2019s foreign policy that he committed suicide by jumping into a river.\u00a0\u00a0 The local people respected him so much that they paddled their boats into the river looking for him.\u00a0 Others threw rice into the water so the fish would not eat his body.<\/p>\n<p>There are other stories and cultural traditional associated with Dragon Boat Festival and more information\u00a0 can be found here<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.c-c-c.org\/chineseculture\/festival\/dragonboat\/dragon.html\">http:\/\/www.c-c-c.org\/chineseculture\/festival\/dragonboat\/dragon.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Duanwu_Festival\">http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Duanwu_Festival<\/a><\/p>\n<p>These days dragon boat races are held in southern China where rivers and water are common. \u00a0\u00a0The rest of China enjoys the making and\/or eating of zhongzi.\u00a0 It is also spelt as zongzi.\u00a0 They \u00a0consist of \u00a0rice and other tidbits wrapped in leaves and steamed.\u00a0 We have a day off work yet I discovered yesterday that middle school students must go to school.<\/p>\n<p>I bought a couple of zhongzi from a woman in the street near the college on Monday.\u00a0 When I photographed them I discovered that one had a tiny hitchhiker.\u00a0 It is just under the tie in the middle of the one on the left.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Zongzi-and-hitchhiker-under-th-tie-on-left.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-230\" fate of those zhongzi.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0I have since acquired a few more from students and staff.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is a link to more information about the festival and a recipe for making acquired and 3 different styles of wrapping are evident.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The one at the front contains meat.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t tried them yet.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first decent photo of an
