of Lijiang"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There were numerous critters in Lijiang and surrounding areas.\u00a0\u00a0The ones here are\u00a0only\u00a0 the more unusual or one representative from a group or location.<\/p>\n<p>Domestic<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Lijiang-042.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium (max-width: 181px) 100vw, 181px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This critter was visitng an ATM with its master.\u00a0 When I stopped to photograph it\u00a0 the Chinese did too so it ended up in quite a crowd.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Baishai-etc-595.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-426\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 203px) 100vw, 203px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This dog was all dressed up and had somewhere to go.\u00a0 He was out with his owners who were dining in the street side of a nice little restaurant in the old town of Shushe \u00a0which I visited at night.<\/p>\n<p>Rural Critters<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Baishai-etc-212.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-417\" title=\"Baishai etc 212\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Baishai-etc-212-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one was tied to a quad bike at Wenhai where the lake and medow was located.\u00a0\u00a0 Someone had a business involving renting quad bikes to tourists who rode them near the lake and then up the unpaved road towards Lijiang.\u00a0 We saw a numer of young Chinese have a good time riding the bikes up nad down the mountain road.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Baishai-etc-2291.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-419\" title=\"Baishai etc 229\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Baishai-etc-2291-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is one of the horses available for riding at Lake Wenhai. The flowers in the background are ones often found in Australian gardens or pots.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Baishai-etc-306.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-424\" title=\"Baishai etc 306\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This horse walked right up to me.\u00a0 Being unfamiliar with horses and not wanting my hand chomped on by horse teeth I let it alone and it soon wandered off.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Baishai-etc-336.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some of the goats and a view of the lake.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure how badly afffected Yunnan continues to be following the last drought as everything seems so green and fertile.\u00a0 However, this lake looks pretty small and I have seen a large scale dam completely devoid of water and another obviously still quite low plus a few creeks which look low.\u00a0 It is the rainy season now.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t encountered much rain and I don&#8217;t know how normal that is.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Lake-Wenghai-028.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-421\" title=\"Lake Wenghai href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Baishai-etc-426.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-423\" title=\"Baishai etc 426\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These cattle were at the foot of a hill on which a monastry mostly destroyed during the Cultural Revolution\u00a0is located.\u00a0 A new\u00a0monastry is being created and a monk materialised on a road and was followed by a couple of kids who also materialised from nowhere\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Baishai-etc-517.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-425\" title=\"Baishai etc 517\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Baishai-etc-517-300x231.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"231\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This cow was tethered in the village where we went for dinner.<\/p>\n<p>Other Critters in Urban Environments<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Lijiang-106.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-427\" title=\"Lijiang 106\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Lijiang-106-300x215.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Lijiang-106-300x215.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Lijiang-106.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This horse and its master were one of several in Lijiang available for tourists to ride through the streets.\u00a0 Horses were an important part of Lijiang and other parts of Yunnan as they carried tea and silk along the Tea Horse Road to Tibet in times past.\u00a0 Lijiang was one of the important stopping points.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Lijiang-064.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-428\" title=\"Lijiang 064\" (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This squirrel was resting in a small rabbit cage outside a shop in Lijiang.\u00a0 There were many wild ones at the Golden Temple in Kunming where they scurried up and down trees in search of nuts and seeds sometimes left by tourists.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Baishai-etc-599.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-429\" title=\"Baishai etc 599\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These fish were in a cage outside a restaurant \u00a0in one of the canals running through Shushe.<\/p>\n<p><a (max-width: 222px) 100vw, 222px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This guy was putting the goat around the main square in Lijiang.,\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure what his role was apart from to look co-ordinated and good.\u00a0 Presumably the horse people were paid for providing rides.\u00a0 There were also some people standing in another large open area who were dressed in historical clothing and made up with metallic paint to go with the metallised appearance of their clothing who posed with tourists.\u00a0 They wern&#8217;t taking any money.\u00a0 This man and his goat\u00a0were always alone.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Mus-Mansion-105.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-431\" title=\"Mu's Mansion park \u00a0where people were playing Naxi music.\u00a0 The man who seemed to be with it was different.<\/p>\n<p><a sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 146px) 100vw, 146px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There were a few shops selling ex-critters in the form of pelts.\u00a0 The man with tourist horse had a fox or somesuch wrapped around his head in the form of a hat and I&#8217;ve seen the same elsewhere.\u00a0 There were a few shops selling leather bags yet\u00a0 few for leather shoes yet once upon a time Lijiang used to be\u00a0 a
