I went for my usual walk to the massage therapist yesterday.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t long before I met a little pup walking with his owners.\u00a0 He was too busy dancing around to sit properly for his portrait and he wasn\u2019t keen to meet a stranger.\u00a0 \"\"<\/a>However, he was pretty cute with clean fluffy hair, white teeth, happy expression and homemade collar and leash.\u00a0 I\u2019d seen them on a previous occasion but I stopped and asked for a photo yesterday and all but the pup were happy to comply.<\/p>\n

There are a number of tiny shops near the massage therapists.\u00a0 The middle aged shopkeepers and I always exchange greetings and often I\u2019m asked to sit down for a chat.\u00a0 We have few words in common, but they are friendly and kind so I stop and chat sometimes.\u00a0 Two of them and some friends were playing mahjong on the footpath.\u00a0 It is one of their summer pastimes.\u00a0 \"\"<\/a>\u00a0The photo also shows a rack containing several of the cover-ups I photographed in the market on Sunday.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

I have no idea how any of them apart from the sewing woman make any money as customers are few and far between at the times I\u2019m there.\u00a0 \u00a0It is their kind of shops which are being demolished all over the city.\u00a0 They seem to front apartment and other buildings.\u00a0 The demolition gives a few extra feet of footpath.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One of their shops sold other means of covering up so I photographed them too.\u00a0 \u00a0The long gloves were a bit of a revelation and they are quite common on women riding bikes.\u00a0 The other is simply a long sleeve equivalent.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After my massage some of the mahjong players had changed.\u00a0 It had escalated into a spectator event.\u00a0 \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Most\/all things in China seem to be\u00a0 spectator sport so I\u2019m gradually becoming used to stopping and looking rather than feeling that I should scurry off and not be seen to be interested.<\/p>\n

I met the chihuahua, who was walking\u00a0 beside the canal with two female companions.\u00a0 He wasn\u2019t on a lead and ran ahead of them, but stopped very still when I approached.\u00a0 I took that as a cue to produce my camera.\u00a0 I rarely get a still dog so I took my opportunity.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\"\"<\/a>The camera made next to no noise but it was enough for him to tell me in no uncertain voice who was boss.\u00a0 \u00a0His companions ran to see what was happening.\u00a0 Fortunately, once he\u2019d said his piece he had no need to taste Aussie flesh.<\/p>\n

The block near the college which used to have numerous stalls on it has had barriers erected \u00a0recent times.\u00a0 A few weeks ago mature trees and shrubs appeared on the street side of the barrier.\u00a0 Yesterday a large truck filled with turf appeared.\u00a0 \"\"<\/a>The turfing was about half done when I walked past.\u00a0 Things are progressing.\u00a0\u00a0 The area which has the barriers erected is not large.\u00a0 It is beside a largish residential area.\u00a0 On the other side of it is an absolutely ginormous \u00a0block where nearly all buildings have \u00a0been demolished.\u00a0 The photo shows that scene from one of my classrooms and was taken about a month ago.\u00a0 My guess is that the residential area in the middle will disappear too.\u00a0<\/p>\n
