Qianmen was renovated in recent times. I remember teetering on makeshift walkways and trying not to sink into damp cement as I walked through Dashalan West during its renovation phase about a year ago. Renovation is mostly finished and the cement and large uncovered manholes have pavers and covers. For various reasons I walked around these streets a few times during the weekend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0221.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-921\" title=\"022\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0221-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0221-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0221.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is Qianmen Gate, Jianlou, \u00a0at the head of Qianmen St.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Qianmen St is to the right\u00a0with Zhengyangmen Gate, Chairman Mao&#8217;s mausoleum and Tianamen Square\u00a0 behind it to the left.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0261.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-922\" title=\"026\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0261-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0261-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0261.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is Zhengyangmen Gate seen through Qianmen Gate<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/039.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-923\" title=\"039\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/039-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/039-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/039.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The wooden gateway to Qianmen St and some of the shops.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/044.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-924\" title=\"044\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/044-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/044-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/044.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trams used to travel down this street during the first part of the 20th century\u00a0and recently\u00a0\u00a02 were reintroduced. Qianmen Gate is seen at the head of the street.\u00a0 There is now a Starbucks near the entrance and it is \u00a0just the place to rest\u00a0 weary feet.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/070.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-925\" title=\"070\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/070-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Qianmen Street.\u00a0 It contains many international and &#8220;Time Honoured Chinese Brands.&#8221;\u00a0 There were many shops with the windows papered over and a notice stating that a new shop would open soon.\u00a0 There appeared to be more than on previous occasions.\u00a0 A set of bronze sculptures previously seen outside a shop had gone too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Beijing-22nd-Sept-085.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-926\" title=\"Beijing 22nd Sept 085\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Beijing-22nd-Sept-085-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This a famous Peking Duck restaurant and two electric cars, one being a police vehicle.\u00a0 Not sure about the other as it is a pedestrian street.\u00a0 This photo was taken in September last year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/055.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is a narrow street parallel to Qianmen and numerous tiny alleyways run from it.\u00a0 This is one of them and they are filled with life, cater for tourists \u00a0without the &#8220;cleaned up for the tourists&#8221;\u00a0appearance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0771.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-928\" title=\"077\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0771-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0771-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0771.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>East Dashalan St runs off Qianmen.\u00a0 This is the entrance to a shop selling silk clothing and includes bronze sculptures of the silk making process and some antique furniture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0861.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-929\" title=\"086\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0861-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is part of an old \u00a0Chinese pharmecutical company.\u00a0 It contains three floors of strange dried things considered beneficial to health.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerry.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/0891.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-930\" title=\"089\" 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The first building is a famous handmade cloth shoe business and the one beside it is an old cinema.
