<\/a><\/p>\nThis is Qianmen Gate, Jianlou, \u00a0at the head of Qianmen St.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Qianmen St is to the right\u00a0with Zhengyangmen Gate, Chairman Mao’s mausoleum and Tianamen Square\u00a0 behind it to the left.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This is Zhengyangmen Gate seen through Qianmen Gate<\/p>\n The wooden gateway to Qianmen St and some of the shops.<\/p>\n Trams used to travel down this street during the first part of the 20th century\u00a0and recently\u00a0\u00a02 were reintroduced. Qianmen Gate is seen at the head of the street.\u00a0 There is now a Starbucks near the entrance and it is \u00a0just the place to rest\u00a0 weary feet. Qianmen Street.\u00a0 It contains many international and “Time Honoured Chinese Brands.”\u00a0 There were many shops with the windows papered over and a notice stating that a new shop would open soon.\u00a0 There appeared to be more than on previous occasions.\u00a0 A set of bronze sculptures previously seen outside a shop had gone too.\u00a0<\/p>\n This a famous Peking Duck restaurant and two electric cars, one being a police vehicle.\u00a0 Not sure about the other as it is a pedestrian street.\u00a0 This photo was taken in September last year.<\/p>\n There is a narrow street parallel to Qianmen and numerous tiny alleyways run from it.\u00a0 This is one of them and they are filled with life, cater for tourists \u00a0without the “cleaned up for the tourists”\u00a0appearance.<\/p>\n East Dashalan St runs off Qianmen.\u00a0 This is the entrance to a shop selling silk clothing and includes bronze sculptures of the silk making process and some antique furniture.<\/p>\n This is part of an old \u00a0Chinese pharmecutical company.\u00a0 It contains three floors of strange dried things considered beneficial to health.<\/p>\n A \u00a0jewellery shop.<\/p>\n The first building is a famous handmade cloth shoe business and the one beside it is an old cinema. Last year I bought some small torches from a shop in this street and I returned to buy some more.\u00a0 The shop had disappeared.<\/p>\n This is the entrance to an alley way which looks like it has had a facelift since I visited it over a year ago.<\/p>\n Shoppers in Dashalan East outside a famous dumpling restaurant.<\/p>\n This is a road dividing the pedestrian East and West Dashalan Streets.\u00a0 West Dashalan is to the top of the photo.\u00a0 West Dashalan St has accommodation facilities, some locals and more muted tourist facilities.<\/p>\n <\/a> This is part of West \u00a0Dashalan in August last year when the street was\u00a0safe enough for me to stop and photograph it.<\/p>\n This is West Dashalan St on Saturday morning.\u00a0 I saw three or four people in night atire during the weekend.\u00a0 Prior to the commencement of EXPO the authorities were trying to encourage the locals in Shanghai not wear pyjamas in the streets lest it give visitors a bad impression.<\/p>\n This wheelchair wouldn’t become lost in a nursing home wheelchair parking area.\u00a0 There is a demand for retirement services and nursing home placements\u00a0 due to the same reasons that they exist in other countries.<\/p>\n Street life.\u00a0 There is a man sitting at a table.
