<\/a><\/p>\nOther forms of hotpot involve a boiling bowl of broth at the table into which you dunk your ingredients.\u00a0 Bowls may be individual or shared depending on the establishment.<\/p>\n
My friend\u00a0decided that I needed to try something else she’d been told was available nearby so she nipped out and soon returned with something like a rolled cut up pancake.\u00a0 It contained some garlic, onions and some sort of sauce\u00a0of which there are several kinds.\u00a0 They\u00a0are brushed over many \u00a0different kinds of buns or pancakes to provide additional flavour and nutrition.\u00a0 While it didn’t look particularly interesting\u00a0\u00a0it tasted good while still hot.\u00a0 However it was rather difficult to eat with chopsticks.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 On returning to college I spied the \u201ccake man\u201d on the footpath just outside the gate.\u00a0 He\u2019s there occasionally and I\u2019ve bought the odd individual plain cake from him.\u00a0The ones I buy have a couple of sunflower seeds on the top.\u00a0 Sunflower seeds are an exceptionally popular snack item in China\u00a0and people cracking open sunflowe seeds are a common sight.\u00a0 He has other kinds but they don\u2019t appeal. \u00a0\u00a0He mixes and cooks on site.<\/p>\n \u00a0 The mixing area.<\/p>\n The truck and oven.\u00a0 It’s possible that I have a better photo from before but this is the one I took on Thursday.<\/p>\n It was the new teacher\u2019s birthday so we went to out to dinner.\u00a0\u00a0 I discovered it was in an area I had visited\u00a0 back in May and photographed some of the unusual buildings.\u00a0 It is where the antique\/old wares market is located so I imagine it is an area with some history.<\/p>\n I think\u00a0the first one\u00a0is the tea house and the restaurant is a couple of shops along.<\/p>\n We went to a restaurant specializing in Peking Duck.\u00a0 I\u2019d never had it before so I was keen to try.We were escorted upstairs to a private room which is the norm except in cheap restaurants.\u00a0 We also ordered many other dishes, not all of which were photographed.\u00a0 It was pretty good and worked out quite economical.<\/p>\n Some sort of vegetable dish.<\/p>\n Another one.\u00a0 Its unusual to see such dishes around here so we really went for them.<\/p>\n \u00a0 Kidneys.\u00a0 I’m told it was tasty.<\/p>\n A fish dish.\u00a0 It tasted good but was too spicy and boney to attract\u00a0 much of my interest.<\/p>\n The duck<\/p>\n The duck having some skin removed by a chef at a table in the hallway.<\/p>\n Duck skin to eat as served.<\/p>\n The remains of the duck was transformed into soup which was quite good.<\/p>\n After dinner we adjourned to a\u00a0nearby establishment to have Chinese tea.\u00a0 Again we were escorted upstairs and sat around a small table at with a staff member presided.\u00a0 She boiled water, rinsed tiny cups, made tea and then served it.\u00a0 We were offered snacks of seeds and packets of some sort of fruit wafer.<\/p>\n The downstairs shop in the teahouse.<\/p>\n The stairs.<\/p>\n Some of the decorations in the room.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a>Each of us\u00a0had individual containers of a thick dipping sauce and shallots.\u00a0 The idea was to place some duck meat, cucumber, shallot and sauce on a crepe, roll it up and eat.\u00a0 \u00a0It was quite good with the fresh vegetables offsetting the oily duck.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
